What's happening
Community volunteers are encouraged to join the Peninsula Link team by nominating for the project's Community Advisory Group. This group will provide valuable local input during the development and construction of the new 25 kilometre freeway. More information on the Peninsula Link advisory group and a copy of the Terms of Reference is available at the
Linking Melbourne Authority website.
Work has started on the Peninsula Link project with the turning of the first sod for the $9.4 million Lathams Road overpass in Carrum Downs.
Project description
Peninsula Link is a proposed 25 kilometre road link between EastLink in Carrum Downs and the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Mount Martha. Peninsula Link is expected to create thousands of jobs and significantly improve travel times through Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.
An Environment Effects Statement (EES) is currently underway for this project. The completion of the EES will still be an important requirement to determine the range of social and environmental mitigation measures for inclusion in the final project.
This project has been submitted to the Commonwealth Government for funding consideration.
Project benefits
- With 60,000 vehicles expected to use Peninsula Link each day, travel times will be slashed to just 17 minutes and congestion will be eased on surrounding roads such as the Frankston Freeway and Moorooduc Highway.
- Peninsula Link will create around 4,000 jobs during construction and almost 10,000 jobs during its early operation.
- A cycling and walking path will be created along the new roadway to provide new recreational and lifestyle opportunities for residents and visitors.
- Peninsula Link will enable motorists to travel from Melbourne's CBD to Rosebud without hitting a traffic light.
