What's happening

New stations in Melbourne's growing suburbs are a step closer with the announcement of the preferred designer of the new stations. Construction will begin next year for the new station at Cardinia Road near Officer.

Project description

Cardinia Road is one of a number of new train stations being built in Melbourne's growing suburbs.

Building new stations is an important, practical step to serve our growing communities. The stations will serve current and future public transport needs and help people access jobs, study and entertainment.

Cardinia Road station will service an area that is growing fast, with the populations of Officer and Pakenham set to grow by almost 40,000 people within the next ten years, and reduce congestion at neighbouring railway stations.

Project benefits

The new station will include:
  • two platforms with passenger shelters and seating
  • pick-up bays for buses and a taxi rank
  • a park and ride facility plus short term kiss-and-ride
  • ticket machines, timetable and passenger information displays
  • closed circuit camera security surveillance
  • pedestrian and bicycle access.
