Project benefits
- The project will help secure the Port of Melbourne's position as the largest container port in Australia and ease a major road and rail bottleneck.
- Freight trains are now able to enter and exit the Port simultaneously on the two freight tracks greatly increasing the efficiency of the Port.
- Trains up to 1500 metres long are now able to enter the Port, making journeys more efficient and profitable for freight operators, with no impact to motorists on Footscray Road.
