Project description
The Laverton Rail Upgrade will enable additional services to be introduced on the Werribee line that will start and finish at Laverton Station. The upgrade will also provide infrastructure to improve the reliability of both the Werribee and V/Line services.
Specifically the project involves:
- an extra kilometre of track between Laverton Station and the Altona Loop Junction and associated signalling works
- a third platform at Laverton Station
- a new footbridge to improve access to the station
- a new rail bridge over Merton Street, and
- around 300 new car spaces on the north side of the station.
Project benefits
- The project will address a bottleneck at the Laverton rail junction at Laverton and at sections of single track in the Altona Loop. This will help Werribee trains run more efficiently and reliably.
- Once completed, the project will enable the introduction of additional peak services that will start and terminate at Laverton Station and stop at stations in the Altona Loop.
- Many trains that start from Werribee will run express from Laverton to Newport resulting in travel time savings.
- Commuters will significantly benefit from improvements at Laverton Station including, approximately 300 new parking spaces, a new platform and pedestrian footbridge.
