Other forms of school transport assistance

Concession fares
School children in Victoria can access discounted, concession fares for travel on all bus, train and tram services by obtaining a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card.

Conveyance allowances
Assistance with school transport is also available through the Conveyance Allowance, which is administered by the Department of Education. Students who are eligible for the Conveyance Allowance will have their fares refunded for travel on public transport services (train or bus).

To be eligible for the Conveyance Allowance, students must either attend the nearest government school or the nearest appropriate denominational non-government school. In both case, students must live at least 4.8 kilometres from the school.

For eligible students who travel by private car, a school-owned bus or privately contracted (charter) bus services, a range of allowances based upon the distance travelled is available.
