Achievements

Following the biggest upgrade to Victoria's regional rail network in 120 years, the Government has returned high quality rail passenger services to Ararat and Bairnsdale.

Works included upgrades to the railway track, signalling system and other rail infrastructure, as well as extensive renovations of Ararat, Bairnsdale and Stratford stations.

Services were reintroduced to Ararat on 11 July 2004 and Bairnsdale on 3 May 2004.

As part of the Regional Fast Rail project, services have also been significantly improved on the Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Latrobe Valley lines.

The project has included new trains, a better timetable and upgraded tracks and signals to deliver more frequent, reliable and comfortable services.
