Transport interchanges
A $130 million program for improving access, transfers and amenity at key transport interchanges across Melbourne was launched in 2007.
The program will complement the
Connecting Transport Services program with new transport interchanges opened across Victoria to improve connections between bus, train, tram and taxi services. One of the key features of the program is to ensure that the new facilities complied with the Disability Discrimination Act and provide access to people with disability and mobilty needs, including wheelchair users and vision-impaired passengers.
Targets for improving accessibility
Targets to improve access to public transport services, including trains, are in the
Accessible Public Transport in Victoria Action Plan. This plan is developed by the Government and operators to meet Federal Disability Discrimination Act requirements.
