Public transport

The Department of Transport coordinates Victoria's extensive public transport network. The management and development of train, tram and bus services is mainly the responsibility of the Department's Public Transport Division.

What's new in public transport

• Work has begun on the second rail bridge over the Merri Creek between Clifton Hill and Westgarth stations. Read the Premier's media release.

• Senior Victorians will be able to travel free on Victoria's public transport network between 5 and 12 October as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. Visit the V/Line website for details and condition on booking free travel on V/Line services.

• Three companies have been invited to bid for the tender to operate Melbourne's train network.

• Changes to the rail timetable: In November 2008, the Government will deliver at least 95 new services on the metropolitan rail network.
