Women in Freight Logistics and Marine Management Scholarship
The Department of Transport offers an annual $10,000 scholarship to a female, full-time or part-time student starting or completing a Masters, PhD, or postgraduate degree in the freight, logistics or marine-related fields.
Applications for the 2009 scholarship closed on Friday 31 October 2008.
Scholarship information
The Scholarship aims to encourage women across Victoria into management positions within the freight, marine and logistics industries and help address the gender imbalance in an industry that has been traditionally male dominated.
A report by the Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council found that women represented 27 per cent of the transport and logistics workforce compared with the average across all industries of 44 per cent.
While more women are choosing to undertake courses relevant to these industries, there are still relatively few that choose a management career path. It is vital to develop a diverse workforce with both excellent technical and business skills.
The scholarship is awarded for one year full-time or two years' part-time study. The scholarship recipient is given the opportunity to work part-time with the Freight, Logistics and Marine Division within the Department of Transport.
